ArtSpot // Samuel Jayms Case

408 Main St, open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 11am-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 15TH 5-8PM

Working with acrylic, resin, rhinestones, embroidery, and canvas, Samuel connects to the creative core of queer culture that is made of fabric and plastic, of drag balls and riots, and parades, and making it work with ingenuity and what we can afford. Acrylic paint expresses the perceived ‘new-ness’ of queer culture while connecting simultaneously with the history of painting, admitting the truth that Queer folk have always existed, however hidden their history may be. Plastic resin coats the work, protecting and preserving it for generations to come (apologies to Mother Earth). Rhinestones and embroidery, generally considered ‘feminine’, allow the artist to explore and express his gender, queerness, and his fondness for drag culture.

Bench & Board // Rachel Wold

610 Main St, open Tuesday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 10am-5:30pm, Sunday noon-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 15TH 5-8PM

Rachel Wold is an abstract artist based in Seattle, Washington. She grew up drawing, painting, and exploring the Pacific Northwest and finds solace and inspiration in nature. Although prolific early in life, Rachel fell out of a creative lifestyle in her mid-twenties after pursuing degrees and a career in science. She works in ocean science at the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Lab and has led research cruises throughout Washington waters. Ideas for artworks would occasionally surface but she didn’t know where or how to start. After suffering first a miscarriage, then postpartum depression after the birth of her second child, she picked up an old sketchbook in search of emotional relief. Putting pen to paper again after a decade hiatus reignited her creative passion. She now makes time for her healing art practice around her fulfilling work and raising two small children.

Cascadia Art Museum // Heidi Barnett

190 Sunset Ave, open Wednesday - Sunday, 11-5pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON MAY 18TH 5-8PM

Heidi describes her work this way: “I am not a fan of straight lines or picture-perfect realism, although that has its place in art. I like to take chances, focusing on color – not the object – and breaking up the restriction of lines. Straying from the confines of a paint brush, I have moved on to objects such as pallet knives, forks, my fingers, and Q-tips, which prevent me from getting too tight, too bound. I love the circular shape which I get from various items.”

And as always, admission to the museum will be free during the Art Walk Edmonds evening!

Christopher Framing & Fine Art // Judith Perry

537 Main St, open Tuesday - Friday 12-5pm, Saturday 10am-4pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 15TH 5-8PM

Judith's advanced studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago focused on the figure. She still finds it fascinating and draws and paints the figure for shows. But to her they are the ultimate landscape. Judy's mediums vary. "Watercolors were natural while living in Hawaii due to the colors and light. Landscapes in oil are a comfortable fit. But drawing with graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel and vine charcoal are like an extension of my arm." The passion comes from the first drop of color on the surface. The drawing and composition are the warm up for that to happen. The world is full of beauty and shapes and social circumstances—seeing is the most important skill for Judith as an artist.

SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 15TH 5-8PM

She has a small garden in the city, and her mother has a big rambling secret garden filled with old English roses in the sea town of Edmonds where she grew up. Flora Forager is a product of Bridget’s love affair with glittering nature and her own artistic skills honed over the years. Creation and Creator combined.

For the Third Thursday Art Walk, Bridget will be present for a book signing of all her works including her most recent "Fairy Journals" novel. From Flora Forager creations to her own flower crown adornments, everything Bridget creates is filled with magic and wonder.

Raised in Oceanside, CA, Bear’s painting skills were first shaped by public school arts programs. His talent for watercolor was recognized in high school, a time when the 1970s surf scene also began influencing his artwork. During a community college mentorship with San Diego watercolorist, Dan Camp, Bear honed techniques in studio and plein air painting of local landmarks and beach scenes. Many years as a watercolorist inform his acrylic techniques and range of style today. Since 2015, Bear’s work is mostly self-taught yet still reflects an appreciation of streetscapes, historic buildings and ocean waves. And though surfing days are long gone, Bear continues finding new inspiration on Puget Sound.

SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 15TH 5-8PM

In March of 2020 Becca’s massage practice of 19 years closed its doors for what has become the last time. It did not take long for her to figure out that her busy brain along with her confused and empty hands needed something to give them a reason to get up in the morning with more than a shrug and a sigh. Her granddaughters brought her art supplies. Thus began the journey into another tactile form of creativity and a saving grace. Coming from that tactile world of expression, Becca invites texture into her work. Photography has been a companion in the past. The combining of these two mediums and the meditative state that arises is a gift Becca gives herself, nearly every day. Her goal is to share, connect, question, delight and heal through her art.

Peter J Catherwood ~ Digital Photography Artist
In 1971 someone gave Peter an old film camera. He got excited about doing black and white, and made a darkroom so he could develop his own prints. From traveling Europe with a 1933 film Graphex 4x5 film camera, to using the most advanced digital cameras available, now most of my work is done on my iPhone. Since the early days of digital cameras, Peter began to create art out of his photos. Using photoshop and other apps, he turns his photography into art.

Petra Binder ~ Art Photography
From an early age being creative has been a driving force for Petra. In Canada, her father gave her her first camera; she still has that camera and cherishes it. Although she has spent most of her adult career as a number person in accounting or the procurement field, her heart has always been drawn to the arts in one form or another. Photography is her therapy and passion: telling a story, capturing a moment, capturing an interesting image that another may not see and putting it on paper or a canvas, framed.
