SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON NOVEMBER 16TH 5-8PM

Perry Jakobs enjoys subverting expectations. Their art is whimsical and colorful, but behind every piece is a bit of melancholy. A sadness that is easily overlooked. Many see pastel creatures and assume they mean joy, but each piece has a bit of their own life story behind it. Layers upon layers of symbolism are ingrained in every piece, and one thing the artist enjoys most is hearing how others interpret their work!

Cascadia Art Museum // Syd C' de Baca

190 Sunset Ave, open Wednesday - Sunday, 11-5pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON NOVEMBER 16TH 5-8PM

Featuring local artist Sydney C' de Baca. While she started watercolor painting vegetables straight from the garden, her painting process and subjects have been evolving over time. Her current m.o. begins with lots of blind contour drawing of her subject. What is blind contour drawing? You choose your subject, put your pen to paper, and then draw it without ever looking down at what you're doing. Yes, the drawings are wild and crazy, but they have a freedom and perception that doesn't happen when you're constantly looking at your drawing trying to make it perfect. Sydney will demonstrate her technique during the Third Thursday Art Walk.

Cascadia Art Museum is also hosting the wreath: “Yayoi Kusama Inspired Dot Wreath” by Lynn Hanson and Martha Hurst. Make sure to stop in to see the wreath and meet the artists!

SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON NOVEMBER 16TH 5-8PM

Gallery North welcomes former member Tom Saknit, creator of Redacted Photography™ as he presents his latest suite, “Mediterranean Memories: Lands Connected By The Sea.” While most might think of the sea as a dividing factor, isolating cultures from one another, the Mediterranean is an example of water as a cultural bridge. The seafaring peoples of the Med have exchanged goods, ideas, and inspiration for millennia. Each port city from Spain, through Italy and into Greece shows influence from cultures beyond the flowing horizon. Whether you have traveled the cities celebrated in this show, visited them virtually, or imagined their stony streets, you will be inspired by the iconic beauty and old-world charm that captivate so many hearts. Photographer Tom Saknit’s trademark approach to highlighting subject while removing visual clutter from his images reminds us of the impact of distilled memories, and the poignance of details lost. His photographs invite us to linger, entering into an on-going dialogue with each image, where the viewer recalls, imagines, and replaces the lost spaces that punctuate each canvas.

A reception will be held Saturday, November 11 from 2-5 pm as well as during the Third Thursday Art Walk - where you can meet artists, enjoy light refreshments, and view this remarkable display.

Many of her designs are inspired by a love of patterns and the juxtaposition between bold and delicate. Michelle has taught herself filigree techniques through research, trial & error, and a lot of youtube videos in foreign languages. She has made it her mission to learn the major filigree styles of the world, tell their stories, and keep their traditions alive.

Rie Munoz: Rie’s work and world of art is one of animated movement. You’ll find ducks bobbing on water, boats tied up at docks or on Alaskan rivers, fishermen tending to their nets, children at play, villagers picking berries, village life, and dogs.
