Ali Alassadi is a self-taught Iraqi American multidisciplinary artist based in Seattle, whose work seamlessly fuses traditional Arabic calligraphy with contemporary expression. Drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern miniature art, Ali's creations challenge conventional norms and celebrate cultural heritage in a fresh, innovative manner.

Ali's artistic journey began at a young age, exploring watercolors at the tender age of five and dedicating his free moments in Iraq to sketching animals and landscapes, laying the foundation for his lifelong passion. At 24, Ali embarked on a transformative journey, leaving Iraq for the United States and settling in Phoenix, AZ, for the subsequent seven years. In August 2017, Ali's artistic path led him to Seattle, Washington, a city that instantly captured his heart. Enthralled by Seattle's natural beauty and inspired by its vibrant artistic community, Ali rekindled his love for art, his first and enduring passion. Amid the challenges of 2020, Ali turned to art as a coping mechanism, teaching himself Arabic calligraphy and drawing inspiration from the legendary Iraqi calligrapher, Wissam Shaukat. His exploration of various scripts culminated in the creation of his inaugural painting in 2020, promptly selling after sharing it on social media.

Presently, Ali operates his own art studio in East Lake, where he crafts large-scale paintings and custom artwork. In this creative haven, he perpetually experiments with and incorporates new techniques, showcasing his dedication to artistic evolution.

The addition of multiple layers of combined glazes and textures enhance and complete each unique work of art. Gina then signs, numbers, and writes on the back of each botanical piece a sentimental meaning that primarily derives from Victorian era- floral dictionaries, making each and every sculpture a thoughtful experience.

Whitney LaRene has been active in the art community in Seattle and surrounding areas, selling and participating in art walks since 2013. She currently lives in Port Townsend, WA.

Epulo Bistro // Becca Lavin & Wendy Rader-Konofalski

190 Sunset Ave, open Sunday - Thursday 4-8:30pm , Friday - Saturday 3-9:30pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JUNE 20TH 5-8PM

Becca Lavin started painting in 2020 when her 20 year old private massage therapy practice closed its doors for the last time. Becca's art is mainly abstract or representational abstract using every medium that is within reach. It is restless, colorful and textured with a mind of its own. If there is a theme, she hasn't found it yet. Perhaps, Freedom. By the time she finishes a painting there is usually a deep understanding that has surfaced, for her. She leaves the rest to the observer as that is one of the magical things about abstract. The utter subjectiveness of what comes through to the observer. "I love that about abstract!"

Wendy Rader-Konofalski is a local artist who started painting later in life. A brush with death and seven weeks in the hospital and a long recovery may have worked a form of magic on her brain that opened up a portal into a creativity that she never knew existed. Wendy paints on canvas with acrylics, but often use mixed media elements such as charcoal and ink. She enjoys including collage in her work. She paints abstract works and landscapes as well as small florals. Wendy views her work as a sort of symbiotic relationship: herself as artist, and you as viewer.

"Art is a therapy," she says; "it's one of the only ways I can show people what it's like."

Her paintings are a vivid reflection of her intense emotions; she expertly captures the chaos, fear, and emotion that chronic illness can bring. Her paintings encourage contemplation of reality and the deep emotion that is the human experience, and serve to remind us of the power of our own emotions. Her passion for the use of colors to convey deep meanings and her unique forms seem to give hope that darkness and pain is very real, but that there are brighter days in the midst of the storm. Giusiana's work is not only captivating, but intensely emotional and inspiring.
