Crow // Patti Christie

SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JULY 18TH 5-8PM

Patti Christie is life-long native of the Pacific Northwest. Raised in Olympia, she moved to Seattle in 1980 and currently works out of her studio in Magnolia. As a fine arts graduate of The Evergreen State College, Patti discovered the beauty of pastels 30 years ago. Her landscape expressions are memoirs of her travels from Montana to New Zealand.

Growing up on regular visits to the coast of Washington, the soft tones of the dunes, grasses, and ocean heavily influenced her early career. This style remains evident in her recent work, where colors are soft with little evidence of hard defined lines. The art flows on the paper allowing the viewer a sense of belonging to a specific time of day and season. The understanding of light and shadow is more important to the development of the work than perspective.

The way the colors blend and create beautiful scenes on paper was mesmerizing to her. She spent countless hours in the art room experimenting with different techniques and honing her skills. As she entered college, she decided to pursue a degree in Fine Arts to further develop her passion for creating art inspired by nature. She immersed herself in art history, learning about different artistic movements and techniques that influenced her own work. Throughout her artistic journey, nature remained a constant source of inspiration. Whether it was painting landscapes, drawing animals, or sketching flowers, she always found solace and joy in bringing the beauty of the natural world to life on paper. Her dedication to capturing the essence of nature through art was evident in her pieces, each one showcasing her deep connection to the world around her. As she continued to refine her craft, she knew that her love for nature and her artistic abilities would always be intertwined, guiding her on a lifelong creative path.

190 Sunset Ave, open Sunday - Thursday 4-8:30pm , Friday - Saturday 3-9:30pm
SEE ART ALL MONTH DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JULY 18TH 5-8PM

Becca Lavin started painting in 2020 when her 20 year old private massage therapy practice closed its doors for the last time. Becca's art is mainly abstract or representational abstract using every medium that is within reach. It is restless, colorful and textured with a mind of its own. If there is a theme, she hasn't found it yet. Perhaps, Freedom. By the time she finishes a painting there is usually a deep understanding that has surfaced, for her. She leaves the rest to the observer as that is one of the magical things about abstract. The utter subjectiveness of what comes through to the observer. "I love that about abstract!"

Wendy Rader-Konofalski is a local artist who started painting later in life. A brush with death and seven weeks in the hospital and a long recovery may have worked a form of magic on her brain that opened up a portal into a creativity that she never knew existed. Wendy paints on canvas with acrylics, but often use mixed media elements such as charcoal and ink. She enjoys including collage in her work. She paints abstract works and landscapes as well as small florals. Wendy views her work as a sort of symbiotic relationship: herself as artist, and you as viewer.

Koenig Financial Group (Securities and Advisory Services offered through Harbour Investments, Inc. Member SIPC) is proud to partner with the Edmonds College Art Department to bring Edmonds College artists to Art Walk Edmonds.

Shivam Bhardwaj is a self-taught artist who primarily works with oil paint and charcoal mediums. He has been drawing since he was a kid and started painting a few years ago. He focuses on all aspects of “painting”. He has done portraits and abstract work. He gathers his inspiration from other great artists. He learns by replicating their style and implementing it to his ideas. He enjoys the challenge of replication. The main thing that drives him is the idea of creating something out of nothing. In the future, he wants to try landscape painting and sculpting. Shivam is a graduate of Edmonds College.  He currently tutors EC students and will begin independent studies with an EC Art Department faculty member in the fall.

Vey Reutov is an emerging artist with a fire for depicting fiction and surrealism into her artwork. Her creations are a manifestation of dream-like imagery that transports the viewer into a fairytale world. Her show, “Into the Inkwell'' is a series of ghost stories translated into drawings of ink: The ghosts we chase, the ghosts we run from, and the ghosts that are still with us. Vey believes it is these deep, haunting thoughts that are a reminder to take a deeper look within ourselves and reflect about who we are. Vey is a student at Edmonds College and a recipient of the Edmonds Festival of the Arts Scholarship, as well as the Ruby and Louie May Endowed Scholarship. She is on track to receive her associate’s degree in Visual Communications and Technical Arts in Spring of next year.

SEE ART DURING BUSINESS HOURS AND ART WALK ON JULY 18TH 5-8PM

Band sketcher Jeff Barlow is the featured sketcher at Musicology this month. Jeff has always loved bringing his sketchbook to band gigs. The environment is perfect for creating art. There is electricity in the air, the surroundings are a fun challenge, and the drawings have a certain raw quality.

Not long ago Jeff was watching a band play and he'd just finished a drawing that he was reasonably happy with. There wasn't enough time left in the show to do another drawing, but Jeff didn't feel like he was finished. That spurred a crazy idea -- could he draw the band in the length of one song? The band struck up, the pencil started flying, when they finished, Jeff finished. The result was not a Rembrandt, but it had a certain something. Jeff tried it again -- another drawing he liked. Now Jeff goes out almost every weekend looking for gigs where he can do more one-song drawings.
